An inspiring environment for the children
This programme aims to care and support children living with and affected by HIV/ AIDS. For example, we support Kayalvizhi who is undergoing Anti Retro Viral Therapy. Kayalvizhi needs nutritious meals, safe drinking water, guidance to ensure a hygienic environment and counselling. SSH succeeded in providing her the needs and today Kayalvizhi has progressed well.
Essential parental love and care
We work with the community to ensure the children stay with their parents or extended families. This assures them the parental love and care which is essential to cope up with the trauma.
The need for this programme
We initiated this programme taking into consideration the floating population moving to important towns like Palani, Kodaikanal and Batlagundu in Dindigul District. There are many mills, quarries, construction sites and the unsafe employment environment at these places. The prevalence of HIV/ AIDS in these areas are very high coupled with the availability of sex workers.
With CHAHA programme we work in 257 villages out of 1067 villages covering 48 Panchayats in Dindigul District supporting 1003 children.
We have implemented CHACHA programme in five unions in Dindigul District in Tamil Nadu.
Our key achievements
- Overall CD4 (a body’s immune system of children in this programme) has increased
- HIV positive mothers delivered mostly HIV negative children
- Seventeen students passed the 10th std exam and six students got above 400 marks in their public exam
- Ten children have pursued to higher studies and moved to Polytechnic, Nursing and Engineering institutions
