I am Vellaiyammal. My husband, Alagu died of HIV/AIDS five years back. I have two children. My daughter and I are HIV positive too.
For our medical treatment, I borrowed Rs.45,000 from a money lender at the high rate of interest. Meanwhile, my mother- in- law forced me to leave the house. I came back to my mother’s village along with my children. Since I did not have a place to stay, the villagers help me put up a small hut.
I began working in a mango wholesale unit and earned Rs 80 per day. But, the work was only for three days in a week and what I earned was barely sufficient for basic needs and educational support to my children,
Then I approached SSH. They provided nutrition and educational support. Then I asked for a loan to start a small business. They gave me Rs.3000 and I matched another Rs.3000. With that amount I took 50 mango trees on lease at the rate of Rs.6000 for one year. Through this I get Rs.1000 per month. So I am able to spend money for education and also provide good nutrition to my children. So I extend my heartfelt thanks to SSH.
